Lyuba Shmakova Art

Snail 1

15x10x10 cm, ceramics

Lyuba Shmakova is a zoologist by profession. In Russia, she worked at the soil cryology lab in Pushchino, near Moscow, and in Haifa she quickly got a job at the Institute of the Sea.

She works with very small animals - those that can only be seen through a microscope. But they are still animals! And Lyuba treats them with the same seriousness and enthusiasm as one would treat elephants or whales. And of course, she feels and knows all of nature as such.

What do you know about snails? Children often make snails when they just start clay modelling. This is the simplest thing you can make - roll out the sausage, roll it into a spiral, and that's it.

But not for Lyuba. First, any of her work expresses some special mood. Second, she knows what a snail really looks like.
